Story by Chris Hinsperger
The Bonnechere Caves, just 9 kilometers down river from Eganville, and the Bonnechere Museum in beautiful downtown Eganville have been collaborating on community activities and marketing strategies for a number of years now and the ideas never end. Last year Preston O’Grady the manager of the museum registered the name “The Ordovician Fossil Capital of Canada” to help promote and celebrate our geological heritage. The museum hosts four fossil hunts a summer in collaboration with the Bonnechere Caves. The fit is a “no brainer” as the caves have been welcoming thousands of visitors every summer from all over the world to take a walk through a cross section of Ordovician limestone for the last 53 years. All T-shirts at the Bonnechere Caves and the Bonnechere Museum will have the “I Love Fossils” motto prominently displayed on the sleeve.
